About the Artist

Artist Statement

I love to eat and I love to create. Throughout my life, I have had the opportunity to live and travel and eat all around the world, collecting memories, flavors, textures, and sights which I take home with me to inspire a piece of art. Food transcends language and, as an international adventurer, is the best way to quickly familiarize yourself with a new region. Food provides a variety of information about a culture from the way it is presented, to the types of proteins and vegetables served, to the spices that it's cooked with. Food is the common denominator that connects us all and I always travel hungry!

My process is deliberate and intentional with each paper piece carefully hand twisted, molded and manipulated into just the right size and shape before attaching it to the larger design.

Before beginning a piece of art, I consider the subject for days, weeks, sometimes months, gathering ideas for materials, composition, and color along the way. With this approach, the end result is a harmonious work of art that brings the viewer a sense of calm with carefully organized lines, coordinated colors, and a subject that evokes feelings of familiarity and comfort.

I have always loved to create and whenever given a choice, have taken the route that involves the most creativity whether with school projects, decorating a room, or embellishing everyday household items... just to inject some joy into the mundane.

As a lifelong learner, I enjoy challenging myself by exploring different mediums-- acrylic, watercolor, ink, and collage-- but I find myself returning to paper arts. These days, I'm focusing on paper quilling, a technique I learned while living in Singapore and am in the process of blending this technique with my acrylic work.

Biography

Lauren spent the first years of her childhood in New York before moving with her family to Florida when she was eight years old (although, she will always consider herself a New Yorker). After graduating from the University of Florida in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and in 2014 with a Master's of Education in School Counseling and Guidance, Lauren and her husband moved to San Francisco, California where she felt constantly inspired to create by the colorful victorian homes, pride flags, and the majesty of the Pacific Coast. In 2018, she packed up and moved to Singapore which commenced her adventures in Asia. It was during this time that the idea for LRose Studios really took root. As Lauren got used to living abroad, art became a comfort, a way to reconnect with her previous life back home while adjusting to a new country. Leaving the heat and sunshine behind, for her next grand adventure, Lauren and her husband moved to Tokyo, Japan at the end of 2020 where she is currently working and creating.

Fun Fact: Lauren and her husband were featured on HGTV's House Hunters International. Their episode is called "Tug of War in Singapore".
